CSMART Academy is dedicated to providing rigorous safety training for all Bridge and Engineering Officers, responsible for the navigation and operation of the world’s largest fleet of cruise ships belonging to the Carnival Corporation and plc Group.
The facility features bridge and engine room simulators utilizing the most innovative technology and training solutions in the maritime industry, modeled closely after technology and practices used in the airline and other industries.

The CSMART Academy’s team of highly experienced instructors has developed a curriculum that sets the industry standard for safety, sustainability and maritime training and keeps pace with advances in ship technology, fostering critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and confidence.

 

 

Course Administrator (Focused on Reporting & Analysis) (40 hours per week)

CSMART which was established in 2009 has grown with recognised success, prompting Carnival Corporation to commit to a € 85 million investment in a, custom designed Maritime Training Center in Almere, the Netherlands.
The Maritime Training Centre uses the very latest, state-of-the-art technology and methodology. It consists of Bridge/Engine Room Full Mission & Part Task Simulators and practical Electrical Training Laboratories. The number and range of training courses will more than double over the next few years.
CSMART is currently looking for a Course Administrator for 40 hours per week, with particular focus on Reporting & Analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a Course Administrator, you are an integral part of the CSMART team where your key responsibilities will include:

  • Create weekly and monthly course attendance, -results, and –evaluation reports for senior management
  • Preparing for and assisting with monthly and quarterly reports (and ad hoc) for the Business Manager and Senior Director of Finance
  • Cooperate with Course Admin & Logistic, and Guest Relations team for input related to your reports
  • Cooperate in process- and system optimization projects related to your reports
  • Maintaining Results- and Certificate database
  • Weekly course preparation for the instructors & participants
  • Back up for other Course Administration team members when needed

Requirements & Experience

  • HBO or higher degree preferably in Business Administration where analysis of reports have been part of the educational program
  • 0-2 years in business administration / reporting environment
  • Experience with report analysis
  • 2+ years experience working with of Microsoft Office

Skills

  • Software Skills Microsoft Office – Excellent Excel skills (specifically with Pivot table etc.)
  • Technical Skills Analytical, Planning and Review

Guest Relations Supervisor (40 hours per week)

CSMART is currently looking for a Guest Relations Supervisor for 40 hours per week. As a Guest Relations Supervisor you are responsible for leading the Guest Relation’s team and supervising the operational activities of the CSMART Academy reception desk. Our reception is staffed from Monday to Friday from 06.30 hours till 23.00 hours and organised in three shifts per day. The supervisor role includes coaching and planning, but also hands-on assistance with the day-to-day reception activities.

As part of our Reception you are the first point of contact for our participants, clients and other relations both in person and on the phone. You take pride in making sure the reception is well organised and our courses run smoothly. Besides attending to the desk you cooperate in all administration affiliated with the courses, from logistics to course administration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Next to being flexible to work in shifts during the normal workweek, you will be asked to work on a Saturday or Sunday  in rotation with your colleagues, to assist with scheduled weekend courses. Working days could consist of both morning and evening shifts. During your shift you will be tasked duties that could be compared to a Front Office Supervisor function in a hotel.

Key responsibilities would include and not limited to:

  • Planning for the Guest Relations department: making the daily and vacation schedule, distribution of tasks while monitoring sick leave, execution and completion.
  • Liaising with the Course Administration Supervisor where needed
  • Supporting other departments regarding Guest Relations department processes
  • Monitoring and optimizing the certificate process
  • Responsible for a smooth guest departure process
  • General assistance for internal and external guests, such as questions from participants and staff, phone calls, mail sorting, lost and found and emergency response
  • Logistics assistance and administration, from arranging taxi services and airport pickups to no show administration and follow up with international offices and our own CSMART Hotel.
  • Course assistance and administration; from preparing badges and certificates to printing and filing course materials
  • Responsible for Purchasing and maintaining par stock of Stationary and Uniforms for CSMART staff.
  • Assisting as back up for the Purchasing department
  • Support HR team with onboarding program new hires by preparing New Hire welcome packages and providing a tour of the facility

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE

The following skills and experience are highly preferred:

  • Relevant HBO level degree/education obtained in Hotel Management or Administration management
  • Previous experience as a Guest Relations Supervisor, Front desk Supervisor or a similar role in business environment
  • Service oriented, flexible and a true team player
  • Hands on approach to all duties carried out in the department

  • General assistance for internal and external guests, like attending to questions from participants and staff, phone calls, mail sorting and distribution, opening- and closing rounds, lost and found and emergency response;
  • Logistics assistance and administration, from arranging taxi services and airport pickups to no show administration and follow up with international offices and our own hotel facility;
  • Course assistance and administration, ranging from preparing badges and certificates to printing and filing course materials.

  • Delivering training to ship-board technical staff
  • Developing courses/new procedures to be implemented on board ships
  • Keeping up to date with current practices and technology
  • Ship visits to maintain/update practices onboard

REQUIREMENTS

  • Typically be or have been in the role of Senior Engineer/Superintendent, Senior Electrical Technical Officer, Electrical Technical Officer, Subject Matter Experts (SME) Electrical/Automation Engineering
  • Cruise Ship experience is preferred
  • Experience in teaching/instructing would be an asset

Technical & Environmental Instructor (40 hours per week)

The CSMART Academy consists of nautical/technical/electrical and sustainability training incorporating environmental, exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS), efficiency and LNG training. Training rooms include full mission and part task simulators as well as practical electrical training laboratories. The number and range of engineering and electrical training courses will increase over the next few years.
CSMART is currently looking for a Technical & Environmental Instructor for 40 hours per week, with particular focus on practical Technical Environmental competencies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Technical Environmental Instructor, your key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Annual training and appraisal of all Environmental Officers (EO) at CSMART
  • Appraisal of ship specific EO technical environmental proficiency as part of a ship visit coaching and mentoring program
  • Appraising and identifying EO long term training needs
  • Developing new and enhancing existing environmental training courses for EO’s, Nautical and Technical Officers
  • Providing support and feedback to the company’s operating lines, compliance and policy teams
  • Keeping up-to-date with current practices, procedures, technology and regulatory environmental compliance
  • Identify and share best practices in way of environmental management and compliance including continuous improvement of policies, procedures and training

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Experienced Marine Engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in shipboard technical and environmental operations/compliance (10+ years’ experience required)
  • Expertise in international, regional, national environmental laws and regulations that govern global cruise ship operations
  • Knowledge of pollution prevention and pollution-generating equipment in use on cruise ships. Ability to explain and demonstrate proper operation and required maintenance of this equipment
  • Knowledge relating to the effective use of management systems (Safety Management System as prescribed by the ISM Code and Environmental Management System as defined by ISO 14001)
  • Experience ensuring proper record keeping related to environmental operations
  • Expertise related to monitoring and measuring discharges and emissions from onboard equipment
  • Understanding of the requirements for responding to environmental emergencies
  • Cruise ship experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching/instructing
  • Must hold a minimum Class 2 CoC, Class 1 preferred

Engineering Instructor / Developer (LNG focus) (40 hours per week)

CSMART Academy uses the very latest, state-of-the-art technology and methodology.  It consists of Bridge/Engine Room Full Mission & Part Task Simulators and practical Electrical Training Laboratories. The number and range of engineering and electrical training courses will more than double over the next few years.

CSMART Academy is currently looking for high-quality maritime professionals who have particular experience with ships using LNG fuel, in order to develop training for and teach Officers working on the new LNG fueled ships due for delivery in 2018. Applicants must have  a high degree of self-motivation and be able to work independently and as well as an active team member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Engineering Instructor / Developer (LNG) working with the existing team of instructors and developers your key responsibilities/duties will include:

  • Data gathering on the new LNG fuelled ships currently being built. (Dockyard visits will be required)
  • Developing training courses for staff working on the new LNG fuelled ships.
  • Delivering training to Technical Officers and other ship-board staff as required. This will include existing training courses in addition to the primary role of LNG training
  • Performing assessments of Technical Officers and other ship-board staff.
  • Developing existing staff knowledge of LNG practices
  • Keeping up-to-date with current regulatory requirements / practices and technology.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experienced Marine Engineer with a minimum of 5-years’ on-board experience required
  • Management level Certificate of Competency (COC) -Class 1 preferred
  • Cruise Ship experience is desirable but not essential
  • Experience with LNG or LPG is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teaching/instructing experience desirable but full training will be provided
