CSMART Academy is dedicated to providing rigorous safety training for all Bridge and Engineering Officers, responsible for the navigation and operation of the world’s largest fleet of cruise ships belonging to the Carnival Corporation and plc Group.

 

The facility features bridge and engine room simulators utilizing the most innovative technology and training solutions in the maritime industry, modeled closely after technology and practices used in the airline and other industries.

Instructor (Technical) (40 hours per week)

CSMART is currently looking for an Instructor for our Technical Department for 40 hours per week, with a particular focus on Crew Resource Management, current and emerging technologies and procedures achieved by training and simulations. In order to achieve and maintain the agreed maritime standards, the role of the Instructor is to expand their skill set to suit the training needs of the organization. This role focuses on training provided to cruise ship officers. Applicants must possess a high degree of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team

Duties & Responsibilities

 

As an Instructor (Technical), you are an integral part of the CSMART team, where your key responsibilities will include, yet not limited to:

  • Delivering training to ship-board technical staff
  • Delivers the course according to the CSMART course delivery process
  • Developing courses/new procedures to be implemented on board ships
  • Keeping up to date with current practices and technology
  • Liaises with the Course Administration team and other instructors to ensure everything is prepared prior to start of courses
  • Follows up with underperforming participant process
  • Restores equipment and restores any deficiencies
Requirements & Experience
  • Experience should typically be or have been in the role of 1st Engineer at minimum. Experience at Senior Engineer/Superintendent and Subject Matter Experts (SME) in Marine Engineering will be highly valuable.
  • Cruise Ship experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in teaching/instructing would be an asset

Instructor (Nautical Ship handling) (40 hours per week)

CSMART is currently looking for an Instructor for our Nautical department for 40 hours per week. This role focuses on experience at the level of Captain, Staff Captain or as a Pilot. Applicants must possess a high degree of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Participating in Simulation Studies
  • Keeping up to date with current practices and technology

Requirements & Experience

  • Experience as a Captain, a Staff-Captain, or a Pilot
  • Extensive experience as ship handler
  • Extensive experience with podded propulsion is a distinct advantage
  • Cruise Ship experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in teaching/instructing, especially in a simulated environment, would be an asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

As an Operator, you are an integral part of the CSMART team where your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the simulator room is neat and tidy, properly set up for planned scenario prior to Instructor and participants entering;
  • Operates the Simulator during exercises;
  • Follow exercise scripts coordinating with instructors regarding role play;
  • Assist with briefing and debrief participants;
  • Ensure debrief rooms are functioning and prepared as per schedule;
  • Assist instructor with modules/elements of the course;
  • Assist in bridge familiarization;
  • Deliver theoretical, practical and/or de-briefings lecture room modules based on skills & knowledge;
  • Focus on understanding the use of Checklists, Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Procedures;
  • Assist with simulator maintenance in keeping with expertise and IT departmental guidance;
  • Work closely with the instructor pool and facilitate potential progression to Instructor led tasks.
  • Assist the development team with new simulator scenarios/testing;
  • Assist with new simulator related courses/material and testing;
  • Apply the principles after attending BRM/NACOS and/or ERM/DEP course. Followed by more complex programs like CD, promotion Assessments and HV.

Qualifications:

  • College or Bachelor degree in technical, maritime, aviation or other suitable environments
  • Knowledge within the maritime and/or aviation industry. Other (suitable) backgrounds can be taken in consideration
  • Experience at sea or similar field experience within a CRM trained working environment
  • Served as a third Officer/Engineer is preferred

SKILLS

Technical/Software Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word Excel PowerPoint, Sway) is advantageous
  • Basic knowledge of computers and networks
  • Knowledge of ship/aviation systems is an advantage
  • Be able to operate FMB, FME and HV workshop simulators after suitable training and following courses

Personal Skills

  • Good interpersonal and communications skills
  • Analytical and structured thinker
  • Works well in a multi-cultural team environment and is self-managing on individual assignments
