CSMART Academy is dedicated to providing rigorous safety training for all Bridge and Engineering Officers, responsible for the navigation and operation of the world’s largest fleet of cruise ships belonging to the Carnival Corporation and plc Group.
The facility features bridge and engine room simulators utilizing the most innovative technology and training solutions in the maritime industry, modeled closely after technology and practices used in the airline and other industries.

Nautical Instructor – Ship Handling (40 hours per week)

CSMART Academy uses the very latest, state-of-the-art technology and methodology.  It consist of Bridge/Engine Room Full Mission & Part Task Simulators, including dedicated Assessment Facilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 As a Nautical Instructor focused on Ship Handling courses, you are an integral part of the CSMART team, being a role model for Carnival's Deck Staff and the key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering training
  • Developing courses/new procedures to be implemented on board ships
  • Keeping up to date with current practices and technology
  • Occasional ship visits to maintain/update practices on board


REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience as a Captain, a senior Pilot, or a Staff-Captain.
  • Extensive experience as ship handler both on vessels with conventional and podded propulsion
  • Cruise Ship experience is preferred
  • Experience in teaching/instructing, especially in a simulated environment, would be an asset

Simulator Operator (40 hours per week)

Opened in July 2009 and located in Almere, the Netherlands, CSMART Academy established itself from the start as a world-class training center for safety and excellence in maritime operations. It features the most technological advanced simulator equipment, technology and instructional tools in the world, which provide Carnival Corporation Deck and Technical Officers with a superior maritime training experience that emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making.

CSMART Academy is looking to recruit a Simulator Operator with knowledge within the Maritime or Aviation industry. As a Simulator Operator you will be part of a skilled team responsible for running and controlling the simulator exercises on both the Nautical, Engineering and/or Electrical side. In addition to operating the simulators you will also develop training scenarios in conjunction with the instructors.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic experience in hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good analytic skills
  • Works well in multi-cultural team environments and on individual assignments

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient and confident in English, verbal as well as written.
  • Knowledge within the Maritime and/or Aviation industry.
  • Main focus on understanding the use of Checklists, Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Procedures.
  • At least 10 months experience at sea or similar kind of field experience within a Crew Resource Management trained working environment.
  • Maritime Officer preferable
  • Basic Electrical knowledge preferable

Engineering Instructor / Developer (LNG focus) (40 hours per week)

CSMART Academy uses the very latest, state-of-the-art technology and methodology.  It consists of Bridge/Engine Room Full Mission & Part Task Simulators and practical Electrical Training Laboratories. The number and range of engineering and electrical training courses will more than double over the next few years.

CSMART Academy is currently looking for high-quality maritime professionals who have particular experience with ships using LNG fuel, in order to develop training for and teach Officers working on the new LNG fueled ships due for delivery in 2018. Applicants must have  a high degree of self-motivation and be able to work independently and as well as an active team member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Engineering Instructor / Developer (LNG) working with the existing team of instructors and developers your key responsibilities/duties will include:

  • Data gathering on the new LNG fuelled ships currently being built. (Dockyard visits will be required)
  • Developing training courses for staff working on the new LNG fuelled ships.
  • Delivering training to Technical Officers and other ship-board staff as required. This will include existing training courses in addition to the primary role of LNG training
  • Performing assessments of Technical Officers and other ship-board staff.
  • Developing existing staff knowledge of LNG practices
  • Keeping up-to-date with current regulatory requirements / practices and technology.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experienced Marine Engineer with a minimum of 5-years’ on-board experience required
  • Management level Certificate of Competency (COC) -Class 1 preferred
  • Cruise Ship experience is desirable but not essential
  • Experience with LNG or LPG is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teaching/instructing experience desirable but full training will be provided

  • Typically be or have been in the role of Senior Engineer/Superintendent, Senior Electrical Technical Officer, Electrical Technical Officer, Subject Matter Experts (SME) Electrical/Automation Engineering
  • Cruise Ship experience is preferred
  • Experience in teaching/instructing would be an asset
